Purpose driven suffering

Recently a close friend of mine was going through some very difficult times. She was in the throws of deep depression and has physical ailments on top of it.  It came to a breaking point when she hit rock bottom and was loading up on prescription medicines and sleeping pills which were only making things worse. She experienced excruciating headaches. She was in tears when I spoke to her. I knew the place she was in because I was there once before. I knew how hopeless she felt.

An Evening with an Exorcist

I came across this podcast of Fr. Thomas Euteneuer. It is VERY fascinating. It wasn't scary either.  Trust me, I'm easily spooked. I listened before bedtime and had no problems going to sleep. He remains upbeat throughout and also mentions Hollywood's treatment of exorcisms and the inaccuracies and over dramatizations. He said Hollywood movies give the devil much more power than he really has. Another interesting tidbit is about abortion clinics being infested with demons and how much Satan is involved in the abortion industry. Not that it's surprising but I was surprised in how it manifested itself and how some abortionist practice witchcraft.
Anyway, if you have almost an hour, sit back and listen to a very fascinating talk.

Song of Bernadette

My husband recently got the book "The Song of Bernadette" by Franz Werfel. Werfel was a Czech born Jewish writer who was very outspoken against Hitler and the Nazis. He had to flee from Austria to France and ended up in Lourdes. He became fascinated by the story of St. Bernadette. When he then had to escape from France, he promised God if he made it safely to America he would "sing the song" of Bernadette. Shortly after it was made into a Hollywood movie and Jennifer Jones who played Bernadette won an Oscar for best actress.

Father Euteneuer is awesome. I wish his bishop had allowed him to continue as head of HLI.

I've seen the Song of Bernadette many times and loved it - also read the book. It's too bad Hollywood doesn't make films like this anymore. Society seems to be running away from everything Catholic these days.

The Song of Bernadette truly left an impression on my as a young teenager. I've always loved it. It gave me a sense for the holy in life.

Thanks all for stopping by. Song of Bernadette is a new favorite for me. I loaned it to my mom who's agnostic and she thought it was good also.
